Colours In The Sanctuary Garden

Spring is in the air and so is Holi (the Indian festival of colours). This time of the year is all about freshness. What more can be an excuse to embrace colours and to give personal touch to enhance our personal spaces? Everyone of us goes through colour decisions everyday. Which colour to wear? This scarf or that tie? Orange juice or green pear? Some decisions are made very effortlessly – our sub-conscious secretly guides us without us even realising when that happens. But, to be fully aware of what colours to be embraced in our homes and offices, we gently need to hit the reset button. So,what comes to our mind when you hear about colours? Seasons…flowers…rainbows…furnishings…curtains…tapestry…nature?

In the last article, we talked about spaces being planned with a living consciousness of an organism and how this ‘someone special’ is the basis of all design. This person, known as ‘Vaastu-purush’ lies flat on his belly – symmetrical along a mirror axis and fits nicely together in a square grid. Let us explore him in new light…and colour!!! Nature provides us with all seven rainbow colours (which correspond to the seven energy chakras or centers of the body) – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The same rainbow colours are associated with various body organ. This is how they bring out responses in the body by healing it or disturbing it. Research also shows that moods, health and well being can be affected by colour therapy. Vaastu too uses specific colours in each of the cardinal directions to enhance good luck, health and wealth. This is because each direction is governed by a planet, which has a dominant chemical element – represented by a specific colour. Take Venus for example – a planet high in Sulphur which is yellow in colour, ruling the south-east direction.

Scientifically this can be explained by the fact that, we perceive colour only because of sunlight and the intensity of sunlight changes in different directions. Archaeologists have also discovered thousand year old Egyptian temples using the same ways of solarisation to heal with pure colour. In the Greek city of Heliopolis, they even had the City of the Sun. When the sunlight entered the building, its rays split into colours of the spectrum and the individual colours were ‘conducted’ into different room where people would bathe in the colour that their state of health required.

Are you planning to re-decorate your house? Or may you recently have and still not happy with the results? Thinking of trying new drapes, flowers, artefacts, paintings, cushions, essential oils and many more. Let us energise spaces around us by applying a new way to use colours. This exercise will take you through the steps to make your own Sanctuary Garden in broad spectrum of areas around your space.

Subtle Forms of Clutter and How to Deal With Them

Most definitions of clutter amount to some version of the following: “A scattered, disorganized, messy collection of things.” But clutter goes beyond jumbled objects lying around our home. In reality, clutter is often present in more subtle forms and if you are not even aware of them, how can you possibly start cleaning them up? Let’s look at a couple of the ways clutter can sneak up on you, the detrimental impact it is likely to have, and how to handle it.

Many professional organizers and feng shui experts have broadened their definition of clutter to extend beyond things like the obvious stacks of papers waiting to be sorted, or that collection of gardening tools in the garage that implodes whenever you remove the one you need. Let’s look at two of these less obvious forms of clutter.

1. Projects that are left unfinished
2. Things not attended to or cared for properly

While these forms of clutter don’t always create a visible mess in our physical surroundings, they always increase our internal clutter by adding to the “background noise” of our mind. We may not even notice it, but mental clutter is a terrible drain on our energy and peace of mind.

Here’s an example of the “unfinished project” clutter. Remember that birdfeeder you were so excited about building earlier in the year? It’s been sitting there waiting to be assembled but by now you have happily moved on to other interests. So now, whenever you pass by this incomplete project, instead of envisioning a White-crowned Sparrow stopping by for lunch, you beat yourself up for your “lack of follow through” or some other form of negative self-talk. Well do yourself a favor and get it out of your house. Donate it or recycle it and you will be preserving your energy for the things that are bringing you joy today!

Now let’s look at clutter in the “not being attended to properly” category. Here’s an example that’s fairly common. You bought some house plants because you enjoy the beauty and fresh greenery they bring into your home. You started out with just a couple but kept adding to your collection and now several are looking pretty droopy. Maybe you don’t really have the space or growing conditions for the wide variety of plants you now own, so they’re all cramped in front of your picture window, getting a bit dusty. You do water them of course, and they are alive, but they’re not thriving. In this case, wouldn’t you and the plants, be better off if you just picked out two or three to keep and made a gift of the others to friends who may have both space and the perfect conditions? Having given them away, rather than a jungle of ailing specimens that just survive, you now have a couple of vibrantly healthy plants, cheerfully growing in a perfect spot in your home. The clutter has been cleared and you have created a miniature oasis of greenery. Sometimes less really is more.

So now we have seen two types of clutter that are a bit outside the narrower, traditional definition, yet have the same negative impact. The remedy in each case requires us to observe how we honestly feel about the items or area in question in the present moment. After that, give yourself permission to take action from that place of awareness. Our goal in removing clutter is to create a space that nurtures and renews us, while allowing energy to flow freely. Removing clutter is an act of kindness for ourselves, and we are all worth the effort.

Solar Garden Lights Ambiance Design and Enjoyment

Two aspects of human behavior play a very important role in the positive impact the design and installation of your solar garden lights will have on your inner self and happiness. They are:

1. Setting and accomplishing goals and objectives have positive effects on the human spirit.
2. Making time for fun and relaxation is important for managing stress and good health

OK, right now I am sending out a “Call To Action”. If you have any desire to plant or beautify your yard or garden, first sit down and decide what you would like to do. If not, keep reading and perhaps you may be inspired to move forward. The planning process is imperative in developing your vision and consequently taking action. The result of the plan will be a course of action called goals and objectives for your solar garden.

I don’t know exactly how this became inherent in our human behavior but we are all goal oriented. Behavioral research has shown that once a goal is set, everything we do subliminally is directed towards the attainment of that goal. Sound like fun to you? I have seen the positive effects planning and goal setting has had on a vast majority people in the companies I have worked with in my career as a management consultant.

I love the quote, “The Human Spirit is at it’s best when it has just accomplished a seemingly impossible task.” I am not sure who created it but it has been a favorite of mine for several years. Just revert back to the last time you set out to do a task and the exhilarating feeling you had upon completion. This is especially true if there was an extended period of time involved and the level of difficulty was high. Can you possibly image the emotional surge the staff of engineers at Cape Canaveral felt when they successfully landed astronauts on the moon and returned them safely to Earth for the first time? It must have taken them years and years of planning. Note to the naysayers, “Anything is possible”.

It may seem intimidating to get started given the size of space you have to work with along with all the options available. Referencing a few good books, magazines, and websites on the topic of gardening are a few of the ways to generate innovative ideas that will suit your needs for your yard. This is when the creative genius in you can come out and fashion a beautiful and peaceful environment that you can enjoy for years.

Let’s focus next on making time for fun and relaxation. Are you in agreement? Decorating your garden can be a great way to relieve stress. Controlling your emotions and putting your mind “in a good place” can be accomplished by first creating a tranquil environment and then spending peaceful time in your safe haven in what may be described as a form of self-meditation.

How Do I Get Started?

Once you have mentally put together an idea of what you want the garden to look like, get a piece of paper and write down all activities that are necessary to complete the project. Example: purchase solar path lights, re-sod the flowerbed, dig out rocks, plant bushes, pave path, etc. Next sort the activities in chronological order and place them vertically on the left of the page. Then create columns from left to right across the top representing each week of the project progression from start to finish. Place the date of the week in each column. The number of columns for the weeks could be from two to ten weeks depending upon the length of the project. Finally, place an X in the position that intersects with the activity and the week it is to be completed. This will constitute your listing of projects and timeline for completion.

Organic Gardening Tips For Flowers And Herbs

The popularity of organic food and gardening has certainly increased over the last few years. Not only does it give you a sense of well being but people love the beauty of wonderful colored flowers and the taste of vegetables they helped create. Organic gardening tips on how to successfully start and care for an organic garden are becoming easier to find as this type of gardening continues to become more popular. Along with being relaxing, it is a very interesting hobby. Anyone can organically produce wonderful fruits, herbs and vegetables and know that they are healthy to eat and pesticide, herbicide and chemical free. There will always be garden pests but instead of using chemicals to deal with this problem, there are many organic gardening tips to get rid of them, similar to the way gardeners did many years ago before the use of pesticides and herbicides.

A good homemade pest deterrent to use in organic gardening is:

In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.

Following a few organic gardening tips, you will produce fruits, vegetables and herbs that are healthy, taste wonderful, are less expensive than buying produce at the grocery store and give you the peace of mind knowing exactly how they were grown and what was used on them. Aphids are annoying little insects that often cause a lot of damage in your garden. If you plant marigolds near your vegetable garden, the aphids will quit bothering your plants. If you already have an aphid problem, spray the infected plants with diluted soapy water and then spray them again with clear water. Organic gardening tips you should try are; instead of buying compost for your garden, which could contain chemicals, make your own while you cut down on garbage at the same time. Using your garden and kitchen waste is an excellent and very easy way to make your own compost. In your compost pile use peelings from carrots, potatoes and other vegetables, dead weeds, coffee grounds, egg shells and even the pruning from roses and other plants. The different textures help break down the compost quickly. Compost improves the soil texture, structure and aeration while enriching the soil, which stimulates root development. When choosing plants for your organic garden, make sure you choose ones that are well adapted for your area.

Here are a couple of great organic gardening tips that not only help keep your garden free of weeds but also keep the soil from drying out too quickly. Grass clippings and pine needles mixed or old newspapers make very good mulch, which keeps your garden weed free and the soil moist. Organic gardening tips help you grow healthy organic fruits and vegetable that you, your family and friends will love.
